Current Situation:
Yesterday, dozer operators and hand crews focused on suppression repair north of Scipio Lake, working east into Loafers Canyon to repair handline and dozer line used during suppression efforts. Along the southern ridgeline, firefighters improved containment along the fire’s edge, where crews also located and mopped up remaining hotspots. Resources remained in place to patrol secured areas, address remaining heat, and respond to new fire starts if forecasted weather and fuel conditions increased fire activity. As needs on the Wild Goose Fire decrease, air resources are being scaled down and reassigned.
Today, suppression repair continues near Long Knoll Road on the east side of the fire, with crews working south before shifting west toward Maple Grove. Dozer operators and hand crews are repairing handline and dozer line used during suppression efforts by smoothing disturbed areas, improving drainage, and pulling vegetation back where appropriate. Suppression repair work in Loafers Canyon is expected to be completed over the next several operational shifts. Resources remain available to patrol secured areas and respond to new starts if weather, fuels, or fire behavior increase activity in the area.
Weather and Fire Behavior:
Hot, dry, and unstable conditions will continue, with poor overnight recovery keeping fuels dry and receptive. The chance for thunderstorms will decrease tomorrow, but weather conditions may still support increased activity where heat remains. Fire behavior is expected to be minimal, though crews will continue to monitor unburned pockets, interior hotspots, and areas where line is still being secured.
Evacuations and Closures:
Use extreme caution and slow down as you travel on Highway 50. Do not impede firefighter traffic.
All evacuation orders for the Wild Goose Fire have been lifted for Scipio, the Gap area, Maple Hollow, and Maple Grove. Maple Grove Campground will reopen Friday evening, July 10, 2026.
The Fishlake National Forest closure boundary has been reduced. A Forest Closure Order remains in effect, and information and maps are available at this link.
